……………………….I want to take a moment to acknowledge the commendable efforts of the government under President Joseph Nyuma Boikai in initiating key reforms aimed at strengthening our education system.

However, as we celebrate these positive steps forward, I urge President Boikai to consider the following crucial issues
1. Increment of Civil Servants’ Salaries, Especially Teachers:
– Motivation and Retention: Increasing the salaries of civil servants, particularly teachers, by at least the equivalent of three bags of rice can serve as a strong motivation for educators. Adequate salaries can boost morale, enhance job satisfaction, and improve retention rates within the teaching profession.
– Reducing Academic Malpractices: Well-compensated teachers are less likely to engage in unethical practices such as academic malpractices. By addressing financial concerns, the focus can shift towards providing quality education to students.
– Alleviating Hunger Among School-Going Children: Improved salaries can help alleviate the problem of hunger among school children whose parents struggle to provide three nutritious meals a day. This, in turn, can positively impact students’ learning and well-being.

2. Stabilization of Salaries and End to Deductions:
– Financial Stability: Ensuring the stability of teachers’ salaries and eliminating unexplainable deductions is crucial for their financial well-being. This can lead to increased job satisfaction and dedication to their roles within the education system.

3. Decentralization of Educational Activities
– Efficiency and Local Empowerment: Decentralizing educational activities to the counties and districts can enhance efficiency in decision-making and resource allocation. Local authorities are better equipped to address specific needs within their communities, leading to more tailored solutions.
– Reduced Bureaucracy and Improved Oversight: By decentralizing educational activities, the need for nationwide tours by the Minister of Education or central officials can be reduced. Local authorities can provide direct oversight and address issues promptly, leading to a more responsive and accountable education system.

I also want to commend the Minister of Education for her unwavering commitment to ending the issue of volunteer teachers across Liberia. Furthermore, I call for the full implementation of the Education Reform Act of 2011, particularly focusing on the decentralization of educational activities to the counties and districts.

In conclusion, let us continue to advocate for these vital reforms that will not only strengthen our education system but also uplift our teachers, empower our communities, and provide a brighter future for our students. Together, we can create a more responsive, effective, and equitable education system for the benefit of all. Thank you.
